Skipping a Meal

The practice of skipping meals or fasting is followed by many religious groups and is recognised as a method of practising self-control and sacrifice. Here are 3 tips to help you stay well-nourished if you are skipping a meal

  1. Have a balanced meal before and after your fast. Avoid overeating and junk foods before or after as it is counterproductive and can result in weight gain.
  2. Include complex carbohydrates and soluble fibres Choose Low Glycemic foods as they tend to release energy slowly, preventing sugar spikes. Avoid white rice/bread and sugary foods as they are digested rapidly causing your blood sugar levels to spike and drop quickly which will leave you feeling hungry. Food high in fibre helps give you a feeling of fullness.
  3. If possible, try to skip your mid-day meal. As breakfast is essential to give you the energy you need for the day while dinner is also important to sustain your body during the night.
